JR. VOLUNTEERS
Come join an exceptional group of teens and become a Jr. Volunteer at the Texas Zoo. Gain experience and learn about all aspects of Zoo operations. The Jr. Volunteer program accepts applications once a year for youth volunteers ages 13-17. Volunteers must be 13 by May 1st 2008.

DOCENTS
Docents are adult volunteer educators who use easily handled
animals and biofacts to share information with zoo visitors to help them
develop an appreciation of animals, their environment, and to promote a
positive attitude towards conservation. Docents participate in:

___ Animal Presentations ___
Explore Carts ___ Guided Tours
___ Animal Care & Handling ___ Zoo Camp ___Cleaning
An application, background check, interview, and training is
required. You must be at least 18 to qualify for this program.
All training dates are required. An application and resume are required before you begin training.

INTERNSHIPS
Eligibility Requirements:
- Submission
of resume with cover letter and completed application
- Copy
of current college transcript
- Letter
of reference from a professor or advisor
- Signed
Liability Release form
- Pre-service
interview with Zoo’s Education Curator or Animal Curator
- Dependable
transportation
- Positive
attitude and strong work ethic
- Availability
of at least 12 hours per week / 12 week minimum preferred*
*Summer interns must be available
at least 20-40 hours per week.
- Preference
will be given to college juniors and seniors
- Must
be willing to handle animals when necessary for programming purposes.

Internship: March 1st - May 31st Deadline:

Summer
Internship: June 1st - August 31st Deadline: May 1st
Fall
Internship: September 1st – November 30th Deadline: August 1st
Winter
Internship: December1st – February 28th Deadline: November 1st
The internship experience is most appropriate for
individuals with the following qualities:
- Passionate
and curious about the natural world and environmental issues.
- Outgoing,
good communication and organizational skills
- Enjoys
working interactively with a variety of age groups
- Dependable,
cooperative and self-motivated
